Law as Mirror
.
When Adam saw the two trees at the centre of the Garden, he was looking at the heart of the Trinity.
The two trees were the wooden rollers of a Covenant scroll. They represented the past and the future, prophecy and kingdom, united by the Spirit of the present priestly challenge. Moving history forward, cycling the rollers, achieving Succession, required obedience to the Law. Only then could Adam “look into” the wise mind of Christ (1 Peter 1:12).
The two trees, just like Adam, were made in the image of God. Adam was created full-grown; Adam had a counterpart; Adam was a sacred blueprint for humanity, life (bread) and wisdom (wine) for all nations.
Adam was “opened” to form a linear history. Eve was the glorious inheritance. As a scroll, he was reunited with Eve as one flesh by Covenant. Every night and day images the Covenant story arc.
As he observed the trees, the silent legal witnesses, Adam was looking into the Word of God as a mirror. By obedience, he would become food and shelter.

It is interesting that the Old “Adamic” Covenant was recorded on continuous scrolls. Each is a divided “tree trunk.” But Christian writings were all recorded in codex form. Eve is a book of “leaves.”

Have changed the last line – it was a bit too negative.
